In an AU where some event in the Doctor's past convinces him that the Universe would be better if it ran to the rules he believed in so instead of casually ambling around righting wrongs, the Doctor decides to use his knowledge to assume a position of power and run things his way. The young Koschei seeing what has happened to his friend decides not to go down the galactic domination path and instead devotes his considerable knowledge to researching quietly on Gallifrey, never deciding to call himself "Master". By the time they meet again, the Doctor has worked his way through four regenerations whilst Koschei's only used the one.
